Today, Many of us rely heavily on Facebook to communicate with our loved ones and promote business. It is a great place to interact with people and find new customers. It is natural for cybercriminals to target Facebook because of the valuable information we keep in the accounts and the endless possibilities it opens up.
So it is good to know how a Facebook account can be hacked and what steps can be taken to prevent it. In this post, I am sharing different methods to hack other’s Facebook and access data stored on them. But they are illegal methods and may lead to legal actions taken by the account holders or Facebook itself. However, they will help you understand things and thereby secure your account.
1. Hack Facebook through the browser
We log in daily to many websites such as social media, email, e-commerce, and others. It is difficult to remember passwords on all of them. Thankfully, modern browsers allow users to store passwords and manage them from one place. They automatically save your credentials and help you to sign in to respective websites easily. Nowadays, most of us use this feature.
While password autofill lets us save time, it has another side. Anyone who has access to your computer or mobile can sign in to your emails and social sites in a few clicks. It includes Gmail, Facebook, LinkedIn, or your own websites. Do you want to know how it works?
Follow these steps to hack a Facebook using a browser (Desktop and mobile):
1. Open your friend’s computer or mobile, whose Facebook you want to hack. Visit Google Chrome or any other browser they use as default.
Type www.facebook.com on the address bar. Most likely, it will open your friend’s Facebook home feed without entering any password. If not, click the three-dots icon on the top-right corner of your screen to view more browser options. Choose Settings from the menu.
Start typing ‘Facebook’ on the search box to see matching passwords on the bottom. Click on the eye icon to show the password. Click, drag to the right, or left to select the password and copy.
Visit Facebook and enter the username you found on the last step and password to sign in to the account.
How to protect your Facebook account: Never use the password manager feature on your browser. It is not secured and anyone including friends, service engineers, and others can access it. You should be very careful before handing over laptops in service centers as they can view and share your precious work files, private photos easily. So it is better to use encrypted password manager tools like Lastpass instead of the built-in password manager on your browsers. Additionally, lock your device with a PIN or password to prevent others from accessing it without your permission.
2. Hack Facebook through email or phone
This is another simple method to hack a Facebook account. We use both computers and mobiles to check emails. So your friend’s smartphone is enough to hack his or her Facebook account.
Follow these steps to hack a Facebook using email or mobile:
Enter the primary email address of the user. Hit search.
If it is the exact account you want to hack, choose any of the options. Select the Send code via email to get the password reset code via email. To get the code via SMS, choose the last option- Send code via SMS. Click on Continue. Facebook will send a code instantly, collect it to reset the password. Enter a new alpha-numeric password hack Facebook and access photos, videos stored on it.
How to protect your Facebook account: Never leave your phone unattended for a long time. Lock it with a secure PIN, password, or fingerprint sensor. Also, enable two-step authentication on both Facebook and email to enhance their security.
Visit Facebook settings > Security and login to enable two-factor authentication, turn on alerts about unrecognized logins, and review recent login activities. Remove devices that you are no longer using from the list of authorized devices to disable their access. Head to the Apps and Websites menu, to view what apps and websites can access your Facebook information. Remove if you do not use any of them.
3. Hack Facebook through a public Wi-Fi
Do you have a habit of using free, unsecured public WiFi to check emails and social sites? If so, cybercriminals can hack your accounts anytime.
Hackers can steal your social media sessions and passwords using Firesheep. Once it activated, the plugin will look for session cookies on the same network and display them on the Firefox sidebar. The attacker just needs to click on the user name to access their account and view messages, post status updates, etc.
How to protect your Facebook account: Don’t rely on free public WiFi networks. Always open websites on HTTPS:// connection. It helps you to transmit data safely. If necessary, use browser extensions to automatically redirect you to secure page versions (Eg: KB SSL Enforcer on Chrome).
4. Hack Facebook through phishing attacks
Phishing is the most common method used by criminals to hack Facebook. Firstly, they will create a fake login page that will exactly look like Facebook. Then, they will send some fake warning messages to your email and ask you to log in to confirm the identity. The login will not work as this fake page doesn’t have any connection with Facebook. But in this way, phishers collect your credentials to gain access to your Facebook account.
How to protect your Facebook account: Before clicking on email links, make sure that it is sent from @facebookmail.com. It is the official handle for password reset emails on Facebook.
For sign-in, enter your website URL on the address bar directly without clicking on the private links. It is a security precaution and applicable for all websites like Gmail, Facebook, and others. Before giving credentials, check the address bar carefully to ensure that it is the right domain and having the SSL connection.
5. Hack Facebook through keyloggers
This is an advanced method to hack Facebook accounts. Keylogger is a small program installed on a computer to spy on user activities. It will record all keystrokes on the device and send them back to the attacker. Open the log file to detect credentials and hack Facebook.
How to protect your Facebook account: Keyloggers can be hidden in software installation files, apk, images, and others. Never download files from non-trusted sources as they may contain some malicious tools to steal your data. Use good quality anti-virus software to detect and remove malware if any.
6. Hack Facebook through USB sticks
USB hacking is a popular method used by attackers to steal passwords stored on your browsers. It is very simple and will take just a few moments to collect hundreds of login credentials. The hacker uses a programmed USB drive for the purpose, which will run automatically as soon as it connects to your device and copies passwords stored in the web browser. Cybercriminals can sign in to your websites, change passwords, and even sell them through dark web marketplaces.
How to protect your Facebook account: Don’t leave your computer and mobiles unattended. Lock them with a secure password. Install any security software to prevent unrecognized devices from running automatically.
7. Hack Facebook via guessing passwords
If you have a close connection with the victim, make a chat to understand their online activities, and to evaluate what kind of passwords they use. According to recent studies, most people use their phone number or the name of their girlfriend or boyfriend as the password.
These are some widely using passwords:
- Mobile phone numbers
- Date of birth
- Name of girlfriends/boyfriends
- Kid’s name
- Spouse’s name
- Pet’s name
- Vehicle number
- Date of wedding anniversary
How to protect your Facebook account: Avoid commonly using, weak passwords. Today, it’s essential to use alpha-numeric passwords on many websites. It is a combination of alphabets, numbers, and special characters that are difficult to guess for others. Convert your regular password to alpha-numeric on all accounts like Facebook, emails, and others to improve your login security.
